Welikada Prison killing Trial-at-Bar: Further hearing on 21 October

The Colombo High Court yesterday (18) fixed 21 October for further hearing of the Welikada Prison murder case, in order to examine further evidence.

Inspector of Police Neomal Rangajeewa of the Police Narcotics Bureau, former Prison Commissioner Emil Ranjan Lamahewa and Prison Officer Indika Sampath, have been indicted  with the killing eight prisoners during the November 2012 Welikada Prison riots.

The case was taken up before a three-Judge Bench comprising Justices Gihan Kulatunga, Pradeep Hettiarachchi and Manjula Tillekeratne.

The witness Kudabandara, was giving evidence for the third day. Cross-examination began yesterday.

The Attorney General has indicted the defendants on 33 counts, including killing eight prisoners, conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit illegal acts of violence during a search operation conducted by the Special Task Force at the Welikada Prison on 9 November 2012.
