Magazine Prison incident: Police record statement from CPRP Chairman

The Crime Detection Unit of the Borella Police Station, yesterday (2), recorded a statement from the Chairman of the Committee for Protecting Rights of Prisoners (CPRP), Attorney-at-Law Senaka Perera.

Sources said the Borella Police had recorded this statement from Perera, in connection with the alleged carrying of a firearm to the Colombo Magazine Prison, with the aim of murdering an inmate.

Sources added the Borella Police had recorded the statement from Perera, following a complaint lodged with the Acting Inspector General of Police (AIGP), urging him to probe the incident. It has also been revealed that the Acting IGP has ordered the Borella Police to conduct an investigation into the incident and submit a report to him shortly.
